Essay on Subhash Chandra Bose in English 500 words for Students, Kids, Children: Subhash Chandra Bose was an Indian Nationalist, born on 23rd January, 1897, in the state of Cuttack. His father, Janakinath Bose, was a successful lawyer and government pleader. His mother, Prabhavati, was a housewife and was considered as anchor of family.

Bose joined Presidency College, Calcutta for his matriculation and later on joined Scottish Church College for his BA. He went to England for taking admission in Cambridge University and appears for Indian Civil Services examination.

He appeared for open competitive examination in August 1920 and secured fourth position. But, having doubts for final examination, he skipped the examination and decided to return to India.

He decided to leave the final examination of Indian Civil Services and appeared for his examination in Cambridge. Before returning, he met C.R. Das, a lawyer and politician, who encouraged him to return to Calcutta for working in India. Mr. Das has contributed enough in the life of Bose in terms of nationalist views, and politics.

Indian National Congress

He started newspaper “Swaraj” and worked as an editor of another newspaper “Forward”, which was started by C.R. Das. Bose was elected as the President of All India Youth Congress, Secretary of Bengal State Congress and worked as CEO of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation in 1924.

He even was arrested in 1925 for 2 years and after release, worked with J.L. Nehru as General Secretary of Congress party. He, later on, was appointed as Mayor of Calcutta in 1930.

He stood for Swaraj and opposed non violence movement of Gandhiji, which results in splitting up of Indian National Congress on the basis of thought.

He was elected as President of Congress too, but due to internal conflicts and issues, he resigned from the Congress Presidency. He organized All India Forward Bloc and started believing in the ideology of Socialist Authoritarianism, after seeing England people and their disciplinary action.

He organised mass protest in Calcutta against Viceroy Lord Linlithgow, as he declared war on behalf of India without even consulting Congress leadership. For the protest, he was arrested and sent to jail, bit was released after seven days of hunger strike. However, after this incident, his house was taken under surveillance by CID.

International visits and coordination

In the 1930s, Bose travelled to Europe and wrote a part of his book “The Indian Struggle”. In 1941, he flew from his house, on surveillance, and began his journey to visit Russia through British India’s North West Frontiers with Afghanistan.

He then travelled to Germany and founded Free India Centre in Berlin and created the Indian Legion to support of commander of armed forces of German. The idea of this creation was to envisage an invasion of India via Nazi troops and USSR. However, due to internal issues, he left Legion and Germany and went to Japan. The Legion lost their leader and Indian was left lost leaderless.

Indian National Army was revived under the leadership of S.C. Bose in Japan, which worked for Japan and India’s Independence.

Ideology

Subhash Chandra Bose believed in Bhagwat Gita, Swami Vivekananda’s teaching, thought towards society and reforms. The teachings and thought of Swami Vivekananda, his nationalism, his way of reforming the society deeply inspired him.

Bose, however, called himself a Socialist and Leftism and believed in his idea of synthesis between Socialism and Fascism for India. This idea was however critized by J.L. Nehru and Gandhiji. He thought that Indian poverty and social inequalities can’t be eradicated by democratic system, rather Socialist system similar to that of Soviet Russia will work for India’s betterment. He supported and worked for secularism, empowerment of women and other social issues.

Death

Bose’s death occurred because of third degree burn during an aircraft crash on 18th of August 1945 in Japan. His followers however can sense conspiracy in his death, but no evidence in that regard can be collected. He was cremated in the main Taihoka Crematorium.

9. On 6 July 1944, he issued a broadcast in the name of Mahatma Gandhi from Rangoon radio station, in which he addressed Gandhi as the father of the nation. During the freedom struggle, he encouraged the soldiers with the slogans “Delhi Chalo”, “Give me blood, I will give you freedom”.

10. On 18 August 1945, Subhash Chandra Bose was going towards Manchuria. He went missing during the journey. He was martyred in a plane crash on 23 August 1945. Netaji ji is not physically present among us today, but his immortal message on patriotism still inspires us to sacrifice everything for the country.
