APJ Abdul Kalam Essay| Essay on APJ Abdul Kalam in English 1000 Word: APJ Abdul Kalam was born in a Tamil Family in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, on 11th October 1931. APJ Abdul Kalam stands for AbulPakirJainulabdeen Abdul Kalam and his father, Jainulabdin, was a boat owner and imam of a local mosque and mother, Aashismma, was a housewife.

Abdul Kalam was inherited with rational thoughts, spiritual aspect, simple living and human values by his noble father. He went to hostel for high school and later entered Saint Joseph College, Tiruchirapalli for further studies.

Since childhood, he was fascinated with the mysteries of sky, flight of birds, sight of cranes, flight of planes and other scientific aspects. He developed liking for English literature in his college days and read Tolstoy, Scott and other famous writers.

Education

After completing his B.Sc, Kalam got admission in Madras Institute of Technology for Aeronautical Engineering with the financial help of his sister. During his engineering, he had single goal of becoming a pilot, and joined at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

As a technical instructor after completing third year from MIT. He, then, got job opportunities from Indian Air force and Ministry of Defence. However, he can’t succeed for Air force and joined Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala and played his role in the development of first indigenous satellite launcher.

Missile Man of India

Thereafter, he joined Defence Research and Development Organisation of India (DRDO) as Director and lead Joint Controller Launcher Development programme. He worked in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as project director of India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle.

He independently worked on expandable rocket project, which later on got affirmation from the government. He visited NASA’s Langley Research Center, Virginia ; Goddard Space Flight Center,Maryland; and Wallops Flight Facility.

He successfully worked for the development of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. He worked on several satellite projects and missile projects including an intermediate range ballistic missile, Agni; and tactical surface to surface missile, Prithvi.

He joined Defence Ministry as a scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and later on, worked as a Defence to the Prime Minister of India. He played an important part in nuclear experiments of 1998. For his involvement in DRDO, ISRO, development of several missile, satellite launcher and immense contribution in missile development programme, he was named as “Missile man of India”.

While working, he enhanced the pride and glory of country in his own field and helps in enabling India to stand at par with developed countries. For his hard work and immense contribution, he has been conferred with various awards.

Award & Honors

He was awarded with Padma Bhusan in 1980; Padma Vibhusan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997. Apart from these, he was conferred with National Nehru, Dr.Virendra Roy Space and Arya Bhatt award; and title of Doctor of Science by 28 Universities of the country.

After his retirement from national job, he taught at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, during the tenure of which, he was nominated as the President of India. He was elected as 12th President of India on 25th July 2002 and took oath under then chief justice, B.N. Kripal.

He was very modest, humble, soft spoken and hard working man. For his modesty however, other students of MIT used to make fun of him, which affected his self confidence inversely and got depressed, but his father’s words of motivation and inspiration brought back his lost self confidence and enthusiasm for his goal. He was cooperative with his colleagues and used to pay attention to the ideas of his work mates.

During the election of President, he strictly answers to the people’s criticism of appointing a scientist as President. He was a man of hard work and sheer self determination. However, the heart of an unbreakable man with full of determination, is as soft as that of child.

He considered children as seeds, which are important to grow in order to obtain future tree. Hr believes that children are future of nation and had faith on young generation. He wants each and every one of them to have education and nourishment.

He believes in high dreams and inculcating confidence to nurture that dream, to make a way for progress. He believes that if every Indian will work together, India will be able to become developed nation soon. However, for the accomplishment of the same, every citizen has to strive hard and contribution of young generation is inevitable, as youth are the most powerful resources of a country.

Besides Science, he was an excellent writer, violin player and has knowledge of India Classical music. He is fond of gardening and finds peace and pleasure amidst nature. He believes on proper utilisation of each and every minutes of day to conquerone’s dream. Hr was a dreamer and wants to see India flourishing and developed.

Death of APJ Abdul Kalam

He died on 27th July 2015 from a cardiac arrest during his lecture at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. He was buried with full state honours and funeral was done in his hometown, Rameshwaram.
